Syndromic Testing
Infectious pathogens can present with overlapping clinical presentations of different diseases, making diagnosis challenging and time-consuming. Syndromic testing is a process that allows for the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens from a single sample. This approach increases the accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of tests for microbial agents, facilitating improved decision-making and better patient outcomes.
Applied BioCode Inc. designs and develops multiplex panel tests to target a group of pathogens that could be etiological agents of infectious diseases, such as gastrointestinal and respiratory infections. Utilizing multiplex syndromic testing, medical professionals can reduce diagnostic cycles for faster and better care.
How Does Syndromic Panel Testing Work?
Molecular syndromic testing utilizes syndromic diagnostic tests to detect and identify multiple infectious pathogens in a single sample. Respiratory diseases such as influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are excellent examples of conditions with similar clinical manifestations but different etiologies. Syndromic diagnostic testing eliminates the guesswork by isolating and amplifying a target DNA sequence, allowing for the detection of infectious pathogens.
By enabling comprehensive pathogen detection in a single multiplex test, syndromic testing offers an array of benefits in both clinical and research applications.
Our multiplex panel tests provide fast and accurate diagnostic results to support therapeutic interventions, resulting in improved patient care. These solutions also enhance lab workflows and minimize costs by shortening testing times and reducing the need for unnecessary tests. In addition, our syndromic panel testing helps meet MolDx reimbursement standards, increasing the likelihood of reimbursement by Medicare and other insurers.
Syndromic Panels for Infectious Diseases
Applied BioCode Inc. offers a range of clinical diagnostic assays designed to aid in the molecular syndromic testing of various infectious diseases:
- BioCode® Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel: This panel uses our patented Barcoded Magnetic Bead (BMB) technology to simultaneously detect and identify 17 gastrointestinal pathogens in a single sample. The panel can test for various viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
- BioCode® Respiratory Pathogen Panel: This panel is designed to detect and differentiate bacteria and viruses extracted through nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) samples from individuals with clinical presentations of respiratory tract infection. It can identify 17 pathogens and subtypes from a single sample.
- BioCode® SARS-CoV-2 Assay: This assay is designed for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in upper respiratory specimens.
- CoV-2 Flu Plus Assay: This assay simultaneously detects and identifies four key respiratory pathogens from a single nasopharyngeal swab sample—SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A (including three subtypes), Influenza B, and RSV.
What Sets Our Syndromic Panel Testing Solutions Apart?
BioCode® Barcoded Magnetic Beads sets our syndromic panel testing solutions apart. Unlike platforms that require splitting targeting across multiple wells or samples, our patented BMB technology enables testing multiple targets in a single sample and well, increasing the throughput of traditional assays.
Moreover, laboratories can process up to 96 samples in a single run in under four hours post-nucleic acid extraction when running our assays on the BioCode® MDx-3000, an automated molecular diagnostic system. The MDx-3000 can also run up to three different panels at a time, maximizing throughput and cost-effectiveness.
Our multiplex syndromic panel testing solutions have been proven to significantly improve the detection of respiratory and gastrointestinal pathogens and provide actionable results. A Multicenter study of our respiratory pathogen panel demonstrates that our solutions offer comprehensive detection and high reproducibility.
Another Multicenter evaluation of the BioCode® Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel showcases how our solutions enhance the detection and management of acute gastroenteritis through its broad pathogen coverage, high sensitivity, and specificity.
