BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel (RUO)

Screen and detect four STI pathogens + antibiotic resistance in a single sensitive panel

The BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel (RUO) integrates both pathogen identification and resistance screening into one, cost-effective test. This qualitative multiplex nucleic acid amplification panel simultaneously identifies four bacterial and protozoan STI pathogens: Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), while detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance in NG and MG. For research use only.

The Growing Need for STI and Antimicrobial Resistance Detection

The global prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) exceeds 1 million new cases daily, with the majority being asymptomatic. Annually, this totals around 374 million new infections, encompassing common curable STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG). In addition to these, the detection of NG fluoroquinolone resistance markers and MG macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance markers is crucial. These infections and resistance markers can lead to complications such as cervicitis, urethritis, preterm labor, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and heightened vulnerability to HIV. Consequently, accurate detection of these prevalent STIs and resistance markers is crucial for clinical researchers to monitor outbreaks, track resistance trends, and guide treatment strategies.

BioCode® STI Panel FAQs

The following are answers to commonly asked questions about BioCode® macrolide resistance tests. If your question is not addressed below, contact the team at Applied BioCode Inc.

The BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel (RUO) is not cleared by the FDA for diagnostic purposes — it is for research use only.

The panel can simultaneously detect and identify the following STI pathogens in one test:

  • Trichomonas vaginalis (TV)
  • Mycoplasma genitalium (MG)
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG)
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (CT)

The BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel (RUO) also detects mutations associated with macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance.

The following antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mutations can be detected by the BioCode® STI+ Resistance Panel (RUO):

  • Fluoroquinolones: Under the fluoroquinolones antimicrobial drug class, the assay can detect the G248T (S831) mutation in gene parC in Mycoplasma genitalium organisms. For Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the panel can detect C271 (S91 WT) wildtype and C271T (S91F) mutations in gene gyrA.
  • Macrolides: For the macrolides antimicrobial drug class, the BioCode® STI Panel detects mutations in the organism Mycoplasma genitalium in gene 23S rRNA. The mutations include A2058C, A2058G, A2058T, A2059C, A2059G and A2059T.
