Workshop Description
This workshop will present performance data for the BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel in detecting Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), Trichomonas vaginalis (TV), and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) –associated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers using well-characterized clinical specimens. BioCode® STI detection results will be evaluated against FDA-cleared CT/NG and MG/TV nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs). AMR SNP detection and genotype–phenotype concordance will be assessed independently. The workshop will also cover reimbursement considerations for multiplex STI/AMR molecular diagnostics, including payer perspectives, laboratory implementation challenges, and the application of CPT, ICD-10, and Z-codes for billing and reimbursement.
Workshop will cover the following topics:
- Performance evaluation of the BioCode® STI + Resistance Panel AMR markers
- Assessment of assay accuracy, mutation detection, and genotype–phenotype concordance
- Reimbursement frameworks, including CPT, ICD-10, and Z-code usage for multiplex STI panels
Speaker Bio

Dr. Olusegun Soge is a microbiologist with expertise in molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases, molecular epidemiology, surveillance of antimicrobial resistance, and genetic characterization of antimicrobial resistance of sexually transmitted pathogens and other clinically important pathogenic bacteria. He collaborates with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State Department of Health-STD/HIV Programs in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, California, Texas, and their Public Health Laboratories, to monitor trends in gonococcal antimicrobial resistance and provide data to guide evidence‐based selection of effective treatment regimens for gonorrhea. Dr. Soge serves as a laboratory consultant and collaborator on the development of new diagnostic tests for STIs; and works with pharmaceutical companies on the evaluation of new antimicrobial compounds as promising treatment options for gonorrhea.

Dr. Joseph D. C. Yao is currently the co-director of the Clinical Virology Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Laboratories in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. and a professor of laboratory medicine and pathology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He is a graduate of University of Manitoba, Canada, and received postgraduate medical training in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and medical microbiology at the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School, and University of Toronto. He currently serves as chair of the Coding and Reimbursement Subcommittee of the ASM Clinical and Public Health Microbiology Committee, and member of the Economic Affairs Committee of the Association for Molecular Pathology. His research interests are in transplant infectious diseases and the development of serologic and molecular diagnostic assays for viral hepatitis and HIV.
